Fashion as Art: Vogue Tribute -- Alexander the Great

Fall 2006 Widows of Culloden

From May 4 - July 31 2011, the "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" exhibit will be on display at the Costume Institute at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. In the May 2011 issue of Vogue, its creative director, the lovely and brilliant Grace Coddington, styled an entire spread not only to honor the exhibit, but also the one year anniversary of McQueen's death. In the spread, which was designed as if each and every one of these gowns were being uncovered in the Alexander McQueen archives like they were just stored in giant wooden crates, the creative director of the fashion house and the genius behind Kate Middleton's wedding gown, Sarah Burton shares her memories about each pieces. According to Burton, the fourth piece which is covered in flowers indeed had fresh flowers engulfing the entire gown in the Spring 2007 runway show and were placed mere seconds before the model walked down the runway. Each and every one of these McQueen gowns are beautiful pieces of art. There's no doubt about it. I hope I can make a NYC trip sometime soon to witness it myself.
